Speciation Ales to Open New Taproom

Speciation Artisan Ales and Native Species Urban Winery in Comstock Park will open a new taproom later this year, said Mitch Ermatinger, who with his wife Whitney owns the unique “nature-inspired” brewery and winery. They are moving the Comstock Park taproom to 928 Wealthy St. in Grand Rapids.  When the new taproom opens, they will close the Comstock Park taproom, but the brewery and winery production will remain at its present location 3720 Laramie St. in Comstock Park.

Ermatinger opened the Speciation Artisan Ales brewery in 2017 and said the Comstock Park location worked well for starting the brewery.  He added the taproom a year later.  Moving the taproom to Wealthy Street will bring their products closer to their customers, he said.

Speciation Artisan Ales specializes in wild ales and ciders and uses Michigan-grown ingredients, said Ermatinger.  In 2019 he opened his Native Species Urban Winery which produces wine from foot-crushed grapes and natural fermentation techniques.
