New Traffic Signal Coming to West River Drive
A new traffic signal is coming to the intersection of West River Dr. and Division Ave. in downtown Comstock Park.
“People have been asking for this signal for a long time,” said Shirley Wollner, assistant director of Kent County Traffic and Safety. She said a traffic study showed the light was warranted “based on a lot of delay” at the intersection.
Wollner said the light is expected to be complete by mid-June depending on coordination with the power company. Once the light is operational, it will flash for two weeks to give drivers a chance to get used to it before it starts its regular functions. A signal optimization was to done to coordinate the light traffic light with the nearby light at the 131 ramps.
“When there’s a light that close it gets tricky to coordinate them,” said Wollner.
